Parishioners were shocked to learn of the unexpected death of John (Jackie) Egan of Tarmons East and formerly of Tarbert Town on Thursday February 2, 2012 at home. Jackie was a very successful member of the farming community and was an outstanding neighbour. His absence from Clonmel coursing this year was noted by his many friends as he was a regular at the course for many years along with the love of his life his wife Nuala. His remains were waked at his son Sean’s House on Saturday February 3, where Jackie’s life long friends Dan and Denis Kiely and Packie Patwell braved the torrential rain to ease congestion of traffic as people were congregating at the Egan household to pay their respects. Jackie’s remains were removed to St. Mary’s Church Tarbert (where he had served as a collector for several years) on Sunday morning for 11am. Mass. Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul was concelebrated by Fr. Danny Broderick P.P. Tarbert, Fr. Maurice (Mossie) Brick P.P. Lixnaw and Fr. John O’Connor (Retired P.P. London) on Sunday February 5, at 11 am. A Guard of Honour Flanked the funeral procession to the church and afterwards to the new section of the cemetery where interment took place. Jackie is survived by his wife Nuala, sons Sean, Eamon and James, daughters Mairead, Helena Harnett (Riverstick) and Bernadette Aherne (Boherbue), brother Paddy, sister, Anna, grand- children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends to whom our most sincere sympathy is extended. May he Rest in Peace.
