Shannon Drowning Service of Remembrance

Tuesday August 15th–  Lest we Forget.

Seventeen (17) local people were lost in the ‘Shannon Drowning’ on the 15th August 1893 and we invite you to join us at the Memorial Plaza at 12.30pm for a Service of Remembrance. Afterwards we will walk to Mulalley’s Berth to lay a wreath  at the Memorial Stone.  Everybody Welcome. 

The family names of Murphy (Maurice and his young son Paddy) Scanlon (sisters Mary, Katie, Bridget and brother Michael) Lyndon (Pat and sister Mary) Bovenizer (brothers Thomas and Michael) John Holly, Tom Glazier, WillieNaughton, Hannah O’ Sullivan, Nora Fitzgerald, Ritchie Allen and Johanna McGrath remain indelibly engrained within in our community.  The memory of these brave souls lives on, forever reminding us to be vigilant regarding the health and safety of our community and everybody who travels across the River Shannon.
