As part of the annual Cuckoo Waking Festival on Sunday 23rd of April we held a Dawn Chorus walk. We gathered at 4.45am at the Bridewell and made our way to John F. Leslie Woods. The chorus was in full swing at around 5.20am. The first bird heard was a Blackbird followed by a distant Woodpigeon. We eventually heard Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Goldcrest, Rook, Song Thrush, Robin, Wren, Dunnock,Pheasant, and on the mudflats were calling Whimbrel. Geoff Hunt from the Limerick branch of Bird Watch Ireland led the walk.
